Family Day

Today we had our Meteor Family Day. Almost a thousand staff members and their families turned up for this annual extravaganza: some as early as 7am on this Saturday morning. They came from as far as Sabah and Sarawak for this grand event displaying their commitment and loyalty to the Group. Yes, we had proud Dads, equally proud Mums and Grandpas and Grandmas showing off their children, nephews, nieces and grandchildren. We started the event with a mass aerobics followed by the poco-poco. This first event attracted such enthusiasm from all, dancing their way accompanied by a loud bouncy music led by a team of professional instructors. Games for the kids followed in rapid succession but it was the parents who were more at it than their children ! The telematches event went well where we saw so much competitive spirit that it overflowed to all members who were inducted into four groups identified by colours. There was also a petting zoo ( comprising of a lonely serama cockerel, 5 rabbits and a pygmy like monkey - we surely hope they were okay after hours of being stared and probed at...) pony rides, inflatibles for the young and old. And the food and snacks were there 24/7 ! It was sheer fun, laughther and merry-making; and also a time where we met and share our personal sides - stories to tell and catching up on whats happening at all our offices nation-wide.
It was not the fun and merry-making that matters but the espirit de corp that were displayed that matters most. In this case, it is the Meteor Group staff members that makes it happen. The organising sub-committees have relentlessly burned many after office hours to plan and engaged other members solving logistical matters etc...the invitation cards, the calling for sponsors, the hotel and transport bookings, the promotional activities to attract the staff to attend, the more than 200 prizes to be wrapped and numbered....and the prayers that went along with it like let it be no earthquake or heavy thunderstorms on that day or the sudden strike of the kitchen staff of the food supplier etc. More than that, another point to note is to give these staff enough room to do their own thing ie planning etc; there must be trust and the forgiveness if one makes mistakes. For this event in particular, the Management gave them that freedom to act and execute...and they delivered. Thank you all.
