A basic plate of Mee Mamak comprised of yellow noodles, eggs, bean sprouts and maybe some greens cooked "mamak" styled. And the finished product is somewhat dry spicy and hot ! One thing for sure, you can order your mee mamak from most indian muslim restaurants in Malaysia. The only difference is in the taste and its look and feel . For instance, a restaurant in Kota Kinabalu produced mee mamak which has chicken or beef in them and it comes with a bowl of soup. And it was a little wet too. Mee mamak that most of us encounter in the Klang Valley will be mostly slightly dry, eggs included , taugeh with taufu cakes. In hotels, the mee mamak will endure enhancements followed by a price enhancement to justify the prawns or chicken slices that were generously made part of the ingredients so as to "upgrade" the quality and taste of the mee mamak.
So, if you have the craving for mee mamak while on the road...just beware; coz what you have tasted in Johor Bahru would not have the same taste and the look and feel of the mee mamak in Kota Baru !
